Thousands Wait for LIHEAP Assistance
July 11, 2011:
At this very hot time of year, Entergy Arkansas and the Central Arkansas Development Council do what they can to help low income people and the elderly with high energy bills.
Monday morning, they began accepting applications for summer Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP).
A mass intake day at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds had already drawn thousands by noon on Monday. The event runs until 2:00 p.m. Monday, and 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Applications for regular and crisis assistance are being accepted.
Entergy officials say they expect about 500 applications to be accepted on Monday.
LIHEAP funding supports the delivery of essential aid to our most vulnerable citizens during extreme weather conditions.
Also Monday, in response to discussion about reducing the federal funding, groups across America are mobilizing to appeal to Congress to reconsider proposed cuts and continue its current level of support. A booth will be set up to provide information on how consumers can show support of LIHEAP funding.
