Senate LHHS Subcommittee Markup: $3.39b for LIHEAP

On Tuesday, the Labor, Health & Human Services (LHHS) Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to fund the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) at a $3.39 billion level for FY 2016.  This is the same level enacted in FY2015.
As a reminder, the House approved $3.36 billion last week.  They are scheduled to mark up that bill in the full House appropriations committee this week.
In February 2015, President Obama requested $3.39 billion in funding. Today’s markup matches that level, but shorter still of the $4.7 billion requested by a bipartisan group of 87 mayors from across 20 states in a letter submitted to the President in late 2014. Advocates for LIHEAP will continue to champion increased funding for the program on the Hill and in communities across the nation.
We will provide additional information as it becomes available. The full press release can be read here.
